Designing for Joy Makes Everything Better

Frontier Magazine tells stories about the ideas, organizations, and people moving us toward a healthier, more equitable, and more joyous world. We focus on the arts and culture, architecture and urban development, and technology, industries linked by their emphasis on creativity and imagination. People change when they have more inspiring ways to do so, and creative insight and excitement are what sets this change in motion. Designing for joy is about making the right choice the better choice. To learn more, read our launch-week letter.

Frontier Magazine is free but will soon enable a subscription option. We believe in the idea writer Tim Carmody articulated a few years ago as “unlocking the commons”: that “the most economically powerful thing you can do is to buy something for your own enjoyment that also improves the world. This has always been the value proposition of journalism and art. It’s a nonexclusive good that’s best enjoyed non-exclusively.” We hope that people who appreciate our efforts and have the means to support us will do so, knowing that this enables us to share our work with everyone.

Frontier Magazine is published by Frontier, a design studio in Toronto, and written and produced by Brian Sholis with support from Tristan Marantos, Paddy Harrington, and Laura Sellors.
