About Frontier Magazine

Frontier Magazine shares big ideas shaping architecture and the built environment. Through essays, interviews, and links that explore culture and technology, we give people exciting new ways to think about places near and far.

I’m Brian Sholis, a Chicagoan in Toronto and a writer and editor with a background in art and technology. I bring these experiences to bear on new and newly relevant ideas about the contours of the world. Frontier Magazine is published by Frontier, a design office where I serve as editorial director.

Frontier Magazine is free for all and is supported by patrons. We believe in an idea writer Tim Carmody articulated a few years ago as “unlocking the commons”: “the most economically powerful thing you can do is to buy something for your own enjoyment that also improves the world.” We hope that people who appreciate our efforts and have the means to support us will do so, knowing that this enables us to share our work with everyone.
